Course Description

This collaborative workshop flows seamlessly between full-group discussion and project - focused breakout sessions. Moderated by a panel of educators from a variety of backgrounds, we foster a workshop environment that welcomes all teaching practices and promotes shared ideas/creativity in the instrumental classroom. This workshop serves as an opportunity to reconsider and revitalize instrumental teaching philosophies and practices. Consider this “think tank” an opportunity to build upon shared ideas in the instrumental classroom. This workshop was curated specifically for you based on data collected from local instrumental educators.

Topics for this session will include:

  • New Classroom Management Approaches
  • The Effective Warm-Up: What, Why & When
  • The Importance of Instrument Switching
  • Recruitment, Retention, Rebuilding Post-Covid

Learner Outcomes

  • Participants will share classroom management challenges and examine new approaches to promote a safe classroom environment.
  • Participants will collaborate with colleagues to share various approaches to instrumental music program recruiting, retention, and instrument switching.
  • Participants will discover new and meaningful ways to the instrumental rehearsal and warm-up process.
  • Participants will evaluate and revitalize teaching practices & philosophies in the instrumental classroom.
