0170 - Introduction to Guitar for Music Educators: Part 1 and 2
Course Description
The first workshop is designed for music educators who want to incorporate guitar into their teaching. Participants will gain hands-on experience with essential guitar techniques, chord progressions, and simple strumming patterns suitable for students of all ages. We’ll cover foundational topics, including basic chord shapes, rhythm exercises, and effective strategies for teaching guitar to beginners. Through interactive demonstrations and practical exercises, educators will learn how to use the guitar to enhance musical concepts, engage students, and foster a creative classroom environment. By the end of the workshop, attendees will feel confident in their ability to introduce guitar basics to their students and inspire a new generation of young musicians.Regarding the second workshop on Saturday, participants will dive into reading standard musical notation on the guitar, exploring how to translate their knowledge of the staff, note values, and rhythms to the instrument. The workshop will also cover the essentials of bar chords, including their construction, finger placement, and application in various musical contexts. Additionally, we will introduce the fundamentals of blues music, focusing on classic blues progressions, scales, and riffs that will help enrich students’ musical experience. By the end of the workshop, educators will be well-equipped to teach guitar notation, bar chords, and the blues, expanding their instructional toolkit and fostering a deeper engagement with the guitar.
Important: Please note, in order to receive SCECHs, you need to attend both workshops.
*You also need to supply your own guitar for these workshops. If you do not own a guitar, we suggest borrowing one.
